Alpine Larder Cafe sits comfortably within the Novotel complex in Crackenback, offering a mix of cafe, pub, and casual dining vibes all under one roof. It works well as a pit stop for families and travelers en route to Thredbo, or for locals looking for a laid-back spot to grab good coffee alongside a substantial meal. The cafe’s atmosphere is easygoing, with friendly and attentive staff who seem experienced in managing everything from solo breakfasts to larger groups without losing their calm.

The menu leans into hearty, well-sized portions that suit a range of tastes—from the simple comforts like a bacon and egg roll or the soup of the day to more substantial mains including lamb short ribs and various pizzas. There’s notably strong support for vegetarian and vegan options, with items like eggplant bruschetta and vegan nachos earning repeat visits from patrons. The cafe also respects dietary needs, offering gluten-free and vegan items in the display cabinet for convenience, which is great for a quick grab or takeaway.

Visitors often appreciate the balance between casual dining and pub-style offerings, such as salt and pepper squid or a fisherman’s basket, paired with a local beer or a carefully crafted mulled wine. The setting makes it particularly inviting during lunchtime or in the early afternoon when the resort’s rhythm slows slightly, allowing for relaxed sharing plates and drinks. Because it’s within a hotel complex, there’s also an unhurried family-friendly vibe backed by nearby playgrounds, which helps keep children entertained while adults enjoy their meal.

One thing to note is the space itself feels compact, so it can get a little busy during peak times, especially when larger groups gather for coffees. No bookings are taken, and while this sometimes means a short wait, the staff’s friendly approach helps keep the experience smooth. Takeaway is readily available, which suits anyone wanting to take a break without straying far from the resort grounds.

Overall, Alpine Larder Cafe fits naturally into life in Crackenback—serving those on the move as well as locals seeking a reliable spot for coffee, casual dining, or a pint. It’s perhaps best visited when you want something straightforward and welcoming without the fuss, with enough menu variety to satisfy different moods and appetites.

Had a couple of great breakfasts here, bacon and egg roll is the go. Good coffee. It's only a small cafe and could get slow / busy if a large group came in for coffees, but the two mornings I was there service was completely fine. No bookings and does takeaway.

This is a wonderful place to have a meal together on the way to Thredbo. Within the Novotel hotel complex, this place is child-friendly and also acknowledges and honors Accor's membership. We were served by a professional staff, who was friendly and attentive to our needs, even for large groups.I found the Mulled Wine to be very good A number of children's playgrounds are located in the area, as are outdoor seating areas.

We had a delicious lunch sharing salt and pepper squid and Beef Nachos washed down with a Great Northern Beer and an Apple Thief Pear Cider. Great service and beautiful food.

Really delicious food and decent portions I've visited Alpine Larder Cafe on multiple occasions over the past week and each time has been great. Staff were friendly and helpful, plenty of vegetarian options (would definitely recommend the Eggplant Bruschetta) and we loved the vibe inside the Cafe. It's the perfect Cafe to have around so you don't really need to leave the resort if it's not necessary. Would visit again

Expensive but good variety of food on menu and in display cabinet (vegan, gluten free items). We tried pizza, and vegan nachos, vegan mud cake ($9), and fruit cup ($8.) All very delicious. Five stars because one time our takeaway cakes were stolen (from a moment looked away to take some photos) one kind lady worker did her best to replace the items. That is rare for quality and compassionate service. Sorry again for the trouble and thank you.

Beautiful place to go after a day of skiing or a Springtime hike. Good food, friendly service and great ambience! Definitely worth the drive to Lake Crackenback.
